Reading Comprehension – We promote huge jumps in reading comprehension by learning how each individual student thinks. When students read, it helps if they can see it, hear it, get involved emotionally, and anticipate what might happen next, just like you do when you are watching a movie you’re really into. By giving students keys to help them instantly decipher word meanings and context reading becomes fun and comprehension skyrockets.

PSAT/SAT Prep – The Standardized Aptitude Test is not only the most commonly used college admission test in the world, but it is also widely used for high IQ societies, forums, and business and networking groups like Mensa. Studies have proven that careful, targeted instruction and continued practice can increase SAT scores. Learn HOW to do well, and what targeted ‘how-to’ and ‘special test knowledge’ will make the difference.

The new SAT, with completely updated rules and priorities, starts March, 5th, 2016. Our SAT prep is about getting you prepared for specific tests, learning study and test-taking strategies, and learning HOW to think critically. Our test prep lessons teach literacy, writing, analyzing, and problem-solving—skills that last a lifetime.

Dyslexia Therapy – We start with the theory that all types of dyslexia come with the gifts of exceptional ingenuity, originality, and creative thinking. Letter placement reversal (writing form instead of from, for example) and letter inversions (for example flipping certain letters like b and d) is usually a result of multidimensional processing. We use visual learning methods, tactile practice, songs, mnemonics, and left brain/right brain theory. We use logic and a sound-based program called Einstein’s Cousin.

Lessons online – Lessons via Zoom or other online programs to get any of the services you need in the comfort of your own home, at your own schedule, no matter where in the world you are.

My daughter was diagnosed with Dyslexia when she was in the 2nd grade.  She received many accommodations to help her succeed, but not much help with English and learning to write.  She had a huge imagination and lots to say about many topics, but she was never sure how to write it all down.  The summer before my daughter entered high school I hired English Practice USA’s, Professor Dawn Cordray as her English tutor. By the time she started high school, she was prepared for her English classes.  So much so that she went from English her first year, to Honors English as a sophomore, AP English as a junior (where she received a 4 on her AP test), and finally dual enrolling in College English 2 her senior year.  She received A’s in all her English classes and, her grade on the English portion of the ACT exam was a 34/36.  Of course, Dawn was always there for her whether it was in person, on the phone, or via email and texting.  My daughter is currently a junior in college and has no difficulty with any of her writing, thanks to her hard work and Dawn’s excellent tutoring. Thanks to her hard work and Dawns excellent tutoring

Mother of a High Schooler

Dawn has been a true blessing in our family. Prior to tutoring with her, my son struggled with reading and comprehension. He was light-years behind his grade level and lacked confidence. When I realized that I could not help him myself, I was fortunate to find Dawn.

At a critical moment in my son’s education and development, she was able to quickly identify the problem and execute a plan. Dawn not only taught my child to read, but she also built his confidence. Her creativity and flexibility have changed the course of his education. Our family will be forever grateful to her.

I gladly endorse Dawn’s background and skill has an educator.

Sincerely,

Mother of a Second Grader

Our son was in 3rd grade when we asked English Practice USA to help him. He is bilingual and of course, he was struggling with reading and comprehension, and grammar. I guess the big challenge with my son was to earn his trust and connect with him. He is very introverted and does not give his friendship easily. Ms. Dawn had the patience and perseverance to have him working with her successfully. With her continuous rewarding words, he improved academically but above all in his confidence and self-esteem. I love to see him succeed now at school and become every day more independent in his studies.

Also, as a parent, I was worried for my son and Ms. Dawn is always been spending a few minutes after the lesson to reassure me and my husband and to explain everything that they were doing together and what she thought it was good to do with him. That made me feel part of the process and always aware of my son’s progress.

Thank you so much Ms. Dawn for everything you have done for our family!
